What You Can Expect From Your Maid Service

Because of scheduled being so hectic these days, it is not uncommon for a household to enlist maid service to try and keep the household in shape. The last thing anyone wants to do when they get home is roll up their sleeves and start to clean. The prospect of paying a small fee to walk into a clean home after a busy day is extremely attractive.

Services will vary depending upon the exact type of business that is contracted. There are plenty of small cleaning companies that may literally be one person and the type of cleaning that they do will probably be more limited. Small businesses that offer maid service and have crews tend to be more effective and work much quicker than one person. Here is a quick rundown of some of the duties of a typical maid service.

Vacuuming – this is obviously a very large part of the service, but should entail much more than the casual pass of the carpets that are visible. Because this is a paid service, furniture should be moved and every area of the home should be covered. This of course should also include a thorough vacuuming of all the furniture.

Windows – all windows (including the windows on doors) should be cleaned. This is very standard. However, outside service may not be included in the service. This is something that should be covered during the initial meeting with the maid service.

General Cleaning – this would include the bathrooms, kitchen, bedroom and all living space. Each and every area should be cleaned thoroughly. For bedrooms, this may also include the changing of linen. All trash cans should be emptied and floors should be swept and mopped. The kitchen can be a tricky area. Be sure to include duties such as the fridge being cleaned along with the inside and outside of the oven. Many maid services will not include these in their regular packages and will add charges for these services.

Shopping and Cooking – this is something that would be part of a high end package. An agreed upon menu would be supplied each week and the service would shop and then prepare the meals as agreed upon. The meals would be refrigerated and/or frozen for the week and could be prepared in a matter of minutes when the customer was ready to consume them.

Pets – upkeep of pets can be very difficult and this is something that should surely be included in the service. For instance, if there is a cat in the home, the changing of the litter box may be included in the service. If there are pets, it is also important to make sure that they are indeed vacuuming the furniture and applying deodorizers to the floors and furniture to alleviate the “pet smell” that can creep into the household.

Maid service is a great way to make your life a little easier, but you want to make sure that you are getting true value for the money that is being spent. For someone that is just looking to keep the house tidy, they can spend very little and get this accomplished. While it may cost a little more to get full maid service, many find it well worth it so that they can truly enjoy their down time.

Hiring An Honest Maid – Questions To Ask
icon1 Adriana Noton | icon2 House Cleaning Tips, office cleaning | icon4 12 11th, 2009| icon3Comments Off

Hiring a maid means bringing a stranger into your home that will have access to your personal belongings. When hiring a maid, you want to make sure that he or she is honest and reliable.

The first questions to ask about a potential maid should be directed to friends, family, and acquaintances. Ask for their experiences with maids and placement agencies. They will likely have good advice. If a friend employs a maid that she’s pleased with, ask for referrals from the maid. Perhaps the maid has friends or relatives. The new maid would be more likely to maintain honesty if she is known to others that you know.

When you are interviewing prospects for the position, always ask for references. The best references are clients or former clients. Your next questions will be directed to the references. Ask for their experiences and any advice they may have about the prospective maid. Inquire about promptness, care of items in the house, attitude, and ease of communication. Be specific about your concerns. As well, ask how trustworthy the reference finds the prospective maid, or what precautions they might have taken with valuables in the house.

Ask the prospective maid if they are bondable. This will ensure that the bonding company will cover any losses incurred. Someone with a felony conviction is not likely to be bonded. Another question you will want answered is the citizenship or visa status of the prospective maid. Someone who has trouble producing documents verifying status sends up red flags about their honesty. You will be responsible for withholdings from the pay, so make sure that person can work legally in this country. You might also ask some questions about the personal life of the prospective maid. How long has she been a maid? Does she like the work? What does she do on her time off? Does she have children? Where are they when she’s working? These questions may give some insight into the character of the person you are considering.

Honesty runs two ways in an employer/employee relationship. Ask the prospective maid what her hourly expectations are. If you pay fairly, and she feels she’s being treated fairly, you are more likely to have a good relationship, and avoid dishonesty because she feels she deserves more than you are paying. If you treat your maid fairly in compensation and expectations of her chores, you will avoid many misunderstandings and grief. Be clear about when and how long you require her services, and what you expect to be done.

Honesty is also measured in the work being completed. If you are clear about your needs and expectations and find consistently that chores are not being completed, or done in a shoddy or slipshod manner, you are not being treated with honesty. A hard working and honest maid will be there at the times agreed upon and will stay for the time specified, as well as complete the tasks assigned in a neat and careful way. You can look forward to a long and satisfying relationship if you are both honest with each other.

A maid can be an essential member of the household when there is a good fit, and takes the burden off the person whose commitments and responsibilities leave little time for cleaning.

Sometimes there are so many things we need to do each day and the last thing on our ever growing list of to-do list is to clean out homes. You may be at the point where you are considering hiring a cleaning service. If you want more time in your day to concentrate to bigger items than your rug, hiring a residential cleaning service is probably one of the best decisions you will ever make.

For some people, giving up control of your house cleaning tasks may be very difficult. Finding a good house cleaning service is not hard, you simply need to set aside some time to interview several different services in order to find the best match for you and your home.

Before contacting any cleaning service company, sit down and write down everything you want your cleaning service to handle. Will you be putting any any items before the cleaners come in or do you expect your service provider to put everything away? Do you have an area of your home that you do not want strangers to clean? Write down everything you can think of because this list will become the basis of your residential cleaning service interview list.

Having an interview list will help guide you through the interview process and you can take notes on the questionnaire. Asking each service the same questions will also help you to compare the cleaning services you spoke to.

Start out your interview by asking for a general overview of the house cleaning services terms and conditions. You will want to discuss the list of issues and job tasks you created when you starting thinking about hiring a cleaning service. The discuss actual logistical issues. You will want to make sure you ask if the service requires you to be present in the home while cleaning. If no one is required to be home, verify that the cleaning agents are bonded against theft and breakage. You may also be interested in asking if an agent is assigned to your home or if the assignments are given on a day-labor basis.

It is definitely important to determine if the cleaning service will provide cleaning products or if that is your responsibility. By having a service provide the cleaning products, you will not need to store any chemicals, however, you will not be able to choose the products used.

Finally, after you have discussed all the issues you wrote down and all the logistical questions, ask about payment and tipping. How does the cleaning company manage billing. Some companies require payment at the time service is performed while other companies may bill you monthly. Verify payment terms now and you will save yourself from an awkward situation later.

During this process you are interviewing a company to work for you, if at any time you do not like the answers the company is providing you with, choose to find another company. Commercial house cleaning is a very competitive business and if you invest a little time in the interview process, you will find a company that meets your needs and probably even surpasses them.

Spring Cleaning? Hire a Cleaning Company

When the weather begins to warm, we all desire to shed ourselves of everything related to winter and be free again. In our homes, we open the windows to let the house breathe and start spring cleaning. Spring cleaning can take a day or a week, depending on how large your home is. But why spend the time cleaning, the sun is shining and winter is gone. Start enjoying life and hire a professional house cleaning company to come into your home and do a complete spring cleaning. What takes you all day, may take a professional team a couple of hours.

Most residential cleaning companies offer a one time deep cleaning service. The cleaning company will send either an individual or a team to your home and clean everything. Many companies may even run a special discount on a one time cleaning during the spring months. You should interview any cleaning company you wish to hire to determine exactly what services are available in their one time cleaning service and what services would be an additional charge. Depending on the services you request you can have the cleaning agents scrub your bathroom, clean out your kitchen cabinets, or polish your furniture. Your entire home could be scrubbed in a matter of hours while you are out shopping.

By having someone else complete all your spring cleaning tasks you will free yourself up to handle more important tasks or simply relax. Once the cleaning crew arrives and you walk them through your home and give them a list of tasks you want performed, let them cleaning agents get to work, and you can go work on something else. Make sure the agents know exactly where all your cleaning products are located, if they did not bring their own, so that you will not be interrupted while you are taking a break from cleaning.

Imagine never having to wash your walls or clean out the back of your cabinets again. The spring cleaning that you may be putting off because you simply do not have the time can be done by someone else. You may also be surprised on how reasonably priced the spring cleaning is. Usually for a one-time spring cleaning you can expect to pay about $20.00 per hour and if you take advantage of a discount or special being offered by your local cleaning service, you will probably pay less.

You may enjoy having the cleaning company do the work for you so well that you hire them to come in on a reoccurring basis. Many people choose to handle the weekly house cleaning themselves but have a cleaning company come into their homes once a month to handle the larger cleaning projects. Imagine never having to wash your windows or scrub your kitchen floor again. If you have problems letting go of tasks in your home consider giving a cleaning company a trial run by having them complete your spring cleaning.

Quick House Cleaning

Do you struggle every day to find time to keep your home clean? Are you lucky enough to return home at night and still have enough energy to take the trash out? House cleaning can be very daunting and unfortunately, if you do not keep on your cleaning tasks, the tasks can quickly become overwhelming.

The best way to quickly clean your house is to pick one room that you will concentrate on each day. Make a schedule and stick to it but make sure you are only working on one room each day. The idea in this quick cleaning plan is not to scrub every nook and cranny in the room, but to provide a general cleaning. Leave the spring cleaning to a day when you are able to work on your entire home.

Quick cleaning a room involves four steps and one multi-use cleaning product. Before you begin cleaning though, you must determine the level of cleanliness you believe is acceptable for every day. Are you ok with your rug not being vacuumed? Or do you desire no dust on anything at any time? If you find yourself constantly fixated on the cleanliness of your home but only have time for quick cleaning, you may find it beneficial to actually write down your home cleaning goal and repeat it every day.

To complete a quick cleaning project you will need to accomplish these tasks in the room:

  • Remove all items that do not belong in the room. If you find that you are removing the same items from the room each time you clean, you should consider giving those items a permanent home in the room they keep coming back to.
  • Put away all items that have a home in the room. During your quick cleaning time do not allow yourself to get distracted with trying to reorganize every drawer or cabinet. You should put books on the book shelf but do not spend the rest of the day alphabetizing the books.
  • Wash or dust all flat surfaces. You may use your choice of multi-purpose cleaner or dust clothes depending on the surface and the amount of dirt accumulated.
  • Wash any visible dirt from the walls of the room. If you remove any visible dirt or marks on a consistent basis, spring cleaning will be much easier. Wipe down or vacuum any furniture, if needed. Remember this is quick cleaning so you should not spend all day cleaning your upholstery but if there is visible dirt clean it up.
  • Vacuum any rugs or carpeting. To get the best suction from your vacuum cleaner, make sure the any bags or containers are empty and all air intake valves are clear.
  • Sweep and mop hard flooring surfaces. For a quick clean you may want to consider one of the quick mopping products available. Save the through mopping and polishing for a monthly chore.

Quick cleaning can actually take you very little time to complete. Once you remember to only concentrate on one room in your house every day you will find that the cleaning tasks actually proceed very easy.

House Cleaning Tips

When your searching for quick and efficient ways to clean your house, the first tip anyone will give you is to clean every day. For a busy professional, cleaning your home every day may not be feasible. Somedays you may return home with barely enough energy to take off your shoes, let alone mop the kitchen floor.

Cleaning your home should be an easy task that does not make you rush home after work in order to check a task off your to-do list. But then again, if you do not work on keeping your home clean every day, you run the risk of having the clutter take over your life. How to manage this delicate balance between cleaning all the time and avoiding cleaning for the sake of more exciting things? It is simple, follow these simple house cleaning tips.

First, make sure everything in your home has a defined location and always put an item away when you are done with it. Books should be in the book shelves, magazines in the magazine location, clothes in the closet. You do not need to define exactly where everything goes but you should have general assigned area for everything and return the items to their homes when you are done. Creating a pile of “things to put away” quickly can become a mountain in the middle of your living room.

Next, clean your kitchen after every meal. You should always clean your dishes and the kitchen after each meal. Do not put off breakfast clean up until after dinner. Keeping your kitchen clean will often make you feel like the rest of your home is clean (even if it is not). By cleaning up after each meal you reduce the actual amount of time you will spend on cleaning.

You have probably heard the old tip about making your bed every morning and putting your shoes away. If you wish to sleep in instead of jumping out of bed earlier in order to make the bed before you leave for work, skip making the bed. Purchase a comforter that is actually a size larger than your bed and cover your bed with the comforter every morning. The excess material will flow over the sides of your bed and cover any mess. Or, don’t think about an unmade bed and close the door to your bedroom. Either way, one of the best tips you can use in the bedroom is give up this idea of the perfectly dressed bed.

Finally, reward yourself with a day off from cleaning every once in a while. Sure, if you keep up with your house cleaning every day the tasks will not be overwhelming but we all need break once in a while. You can treat yourself to a night off of kitchen cleaning by going out to dinner.

Whatever you decide to incorporate into your cleaning regime, try to keep it simple. It is actually better to concentrate on one room of your house every day instead of putting off all cleaning and trying to clean the entire house on a Saturday. There are so many more things we all should be concentrating on a Saturday, house cleaning should not be on your list.
